Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Remove Starter, Install 

DANGER:
-

Risk of fatal accident from vehicle slipping or toppling off the lift platform

-

Align vehicle between the columns of lifting platform and position the four support plates below the support strong points specified by
the vehicle manufacturer.

-

Risk of explosion from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury through
burns to skin and eyes from battery add or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries

-

No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.

-

Wear acid-protective gloves, clothing and eye protection. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked
containers.

Disconnect ground cable of battery 

NOTE:  Insulate cable lug of ground cable to provide protection from unintentional contact between disconnected ground cable and ground point

Detach lower engine compartment paneling

Disconnect electric cables (1/2)

Nut of connection circuit 30:  14 N.m

-

Nut of connection circuit 50:  6 N.m

Remove the right engine mount

NOTE
-

Remove the screws on the engine mount, lift the engine lightly and put the engine mount on the side.

-

The engine mount cannot be removed fully or else the exhaust system will have to be removed.

Unscrew screws (3)
-

Bolt, starter to crankcase:  42 N.m

Take out starter (M1) to the side

Install in the reverse order

Carry out function check

Make electrical system ready for operation
