Lateral output 4MATIC, general information
A propeller shaft (5) is used to transfer the torque from the lateral output (4) of the transfer case to the front axle transmission. The transmission end
universal joint (3) of the propeller shaft (5) is integrated into the output gear (2) of the lateral output (4).
A 7 degrees spiral bevel gear pushes the propeller shaft tube onto the linkage arm of the lateral output (4).
It is necessary to align the universal joints (3) to each other to ensure that a uniform transfer of the rotation is given.
On the transmission end of the front axle, the propeller shaft (5) is connected over a propeller shaft flange (7) to the drive pinion of the front axle
transmission.
Universal joints (3)
A universal joint, which runs under a diffraction angle, always generates a uniform rotary motion.
If the angles that form between the axles of the propeller shaft tube and the linkage arms are equal in size, and if they are located on a common plane,
they will compensate for any irregularities in the two universal joints. The output speed of the propeller shaft (5) onto the front axle transmission is
then uniform.
