The switch On/Off characteristic comprises the following subfunctions:

Activating the overall system

When the transmitter key (A8/1) is inserted into the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) in position 0 ("circuit 15C ON"), all data bus systems are
activated to ensure a quicker switch-on process. When the transmitter key is turned to position 1 ("circuit 15R ON"), the Audio/COMAND display
(A40/8) is switched on if it was switched on before the transmitter key was last removed. The system that was active before the key was last removed
(e.g. radio) is switched on and the corresponding main menu is displayed.

Before the active system is displayed, a warning appears at first containing general information about how to use the system.

Conduct when pushing "ON" button

The COMAND controller unit (A40/3) and the Audio/COMAND display can also be switched on when the transmitter key is removed by pressing the
"ON" button on the COMAND controller unit. All functions are then available for t = 30 minutes After this, the COMAND controller unit and the
Audio/COMAND display are automatically switched off.

If the COMAND controller unit is switched off upon engaging the reverse gear, it is woken up and the picture captured by the reversing camera (B84/3)
is shown on the Audio/COMAND display.

Switch-off characteristics

The COMAND controller unit and the Audio/COMAND display are switched off when the transmitter key is removed ("circuit 15C OFF"). The run-on
time of t = 30 min. (standby) of the navigation system starts. During the run-on time, all the important localizing parameters remain stored.
The run-on time of the audio systems can be set; this is done during the installation of the COMAND controller unit in the plant. When not switched on,
the COMAND controller unit is always in the standby mode when the interior CAN (CAN B) is active.

Switch-off characteristics in the event of undervoltage

If there is an undervoltage from the on-board electrical system battery (G1), a message appears on the Audio/COMAND display requesting that the
engine be started. If the engine is not started, an additional warning occurs after t = 3 min, indicating that the system will be switched off in t = 10 s if the
engine is not started.

If the system has shut itself off and the on-board electrical system voltage increases again, the COMAND controller unit does not switch back on
automatically. The system can be switched on again manually. The warning procedure then runs again, until the cause for the undervoltage is rectified.

If the status of the on-board electrical system is critical, the COMAND controller unit may also be switched off without warning.

If route guidance is activated and the destination is not reached (e.g. fueling stop), the navigation function remains activated for a max. of t = 120 min.
After t > 120 min, a manual confirmation in the "Navigation" menu is required to continue the route.
