Drive/Propeller Shaft: Procedures
Corrections of Absolute Angle of Propeller Shaft
Spacer Between Frame Floor And Propeller Shaft Intermediate Bearing
CORRECTION OF FRONT (angle 1) AND CENTER (angle 2) ARTICULATED ANGLES
-
Use spacers for correction of the articulated angle on the transmission cross member or rear engine mount or on the propeller shaft intermediate
bearing
-
A 1 mm thick spacer changes the articulated angle by approximately 0.16°
NOTE:
^
Spacers are available as spare parts in thicknesses of 1 mm-4 mm.
^
When using a 2-5 mm thick spacer, increase the bolt length by 5 mm.
^
If a spacer greater than 5mm is required, check the rubber mounts of the engine or transmission, for wear, settling or damage, replace if necessary
CORRECTION OF REAR (angle 3) ARTICULATED ANGLE
-
In the example shown in Testing and Inspection, the front and center angles are within range. the rear angle is outside the tolerance range.
-
To correct the rear angle, insert an additional 2 mm thick spacer between the rear axle and the rubber mount (arrow).
-
A 1 mm thick spacer changes the articulated angle by approximately 0.25-0.33°
NOTE:
^
Spacers are available as spare parts in thicknesses of 1 mm-4 mm.
^
When using a 2-5 mm thick spacer, increase the bolt length by 5 mm.
^
If a spacer greater than 5mm is required, check the front rubber mount of the rear axle carrier, for wear, damage or settling, replace if necessary
