Removing and Installing Front Center Assembly Mounting On Rear Axle Carrier
Removing, Installing
DANGER

Risk of fatal accident if the vehicle slips off the lifting platform

Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points
specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
CAUTION:

When working on the rear axle, take care to avoid leaving scratches, cracks or notches in the surfaces of any aluminum components.
Otherwise the service life of the parts will be reduced.

1.1 Remove rear muffler
1.2 Remove exhaust system from flange connection onwards
1.3 Remove exhaust system complete

Remove rear brake cables (86)
NOTE: Do not remove the brake cables from the wheel carrier.

Detach propeller shaft (106) from rear axle center assembly (50)
NOTE: The flexible coupling remains on the propeller shaft.

Loosen fitted sleeves of flexible couplings on flange

Unscrew bolts for propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a) and remove rear section of propeller shaft (106)
NOTE: Installation: Assemble the propeller shaft in the correct position Tighten flexible coupling on rear axle center assembly before
tightening bolts on propeller shaft intermediate bearing.

Unscrew additional volume reservoir (41p) from front center assembly mounting (51) on both sides To do this, unscrew the bolts (41)

With Airmatic, code (489a)

Support rear axle center assembly (50) with transmission jack and transmission platform

Unscrew bolt (64b) of rear center assembly mounting from rear axle carrier (1)

Unscrew bolts (51a) of front center assembly mounting (51)
NOTE: Installation: Ensure that the shims (51b) are correctly positioned: The triangular cutout should point upwards.
