Display of navigation maps

The location of the vehicle and the direction and distance to the destination are determined with the aid of the navigation system.

The navigation system is comprised of the following subfunctions:

The navigation system can be operated using the following components:

Function sequence for navigation mode

The navigation processor integrated into the COMAND control unit calculates the route for reaching the destination (navigation) from the data entered.
The route is then calculated taking the configured options into consideration. If it should not be possible to adhere to the options, then the configured
options are ignored for the stretch in question and a corresponding message is displayed (on dynamic destination-oriented navigation system only) as
well as acoustically sounded. The configured criteria and options can be displayed and changed. After calculation, the route is shown through arrow
symbols in the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) and the instrument cluster (A1). An acoustic announcement is then made, saying "The route is
calculated". Where applicable, a driving lane recommendation is also shown on the Audio/COMAND display and instrument cluster.

If the vehicle is no longer moving on the pre-calculated route, then the route is recalculated. If the recalculated values are plausible for the navigation
system, then the modified route is displayed.

When entered using the Audio/COMAND control panel, the control signals are sent via the telematics CAN (CAN A) to the COMAND control unit.

When directly entered using the control buttons on the COMAND control unit, the control signals are processed within the COMAND control unit.

Voice input takes place via the handsfree system microphone (A67b1). Words spoken into the handsfree system microphone are converted into an
electrical signal and forwarded via a direct line to the COMAND controller unit.

The voice control system is activated using the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111).
