Component Identification

Transfer case 4MATIC, general information

The transfer case is integrated into the rear section of the 7-speed automatic transmission.

The single-speed lateral output with integrated universal joint (6) is a special feature.

The single-speed version, in comparison to a twin-stage lateral output used in the previous transfer case, means that a spur gear set incl. bearing is no
longer required. This exerts a positive influence on drive train efficiency, weight and noise characteristics.

In the event of a repair the transfer case cannot be replaced separately.

It has to be replaced along with the automatic transmission.
