Function sequence for initiating automatic emergency call

The emergency call system control unit receives the crash signal from the restraint systems control unit via a discrete line.
Simultaneously. the emergency call system control unit receives the crash signal (redundant) and the crash level from the restrain systems control unit
over the following path:

Engine compartment CAN

-

Central gateway control unit (N93)

Diagnostic CAN

Function sequence for transmission of emergency call data and communication with the service center

After a manual or automatic emergency call has been triggered, the emergency call system control unit completes a voice connection to the service
center.
After the service center replies with a special tone, the emergency call system control unit automatically sends an SMS with the following data to the
service center over the integrated communication module:

Vehicle position, direction of ravel and history

-

Vehicle data and crash evaluation (severity of accident)

The communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit transmits and receives the mobile phone signals or data in the
following way:

TELE AID antenna (A2/93a4)

If connection to the service center cannot be established when an automatic emergency call is triggered, a voice connection is automatically set up using
the emergency number "911" and it is then necessary to communicate the listed data verbally.

When a manual or automatic emergency call is active, this status is indicated by the two red light-emitting diodes (LED), integrated into the SOS
pushbutton switch, flashing. This is also displayed in the instrument cluster (A1) and on the display on the COMAND operating, display and controller
unit (A40/3).

In the event of a manual or automatic emergency call, other vehicle-related services (e.g. MB-Info call) and, on model 164 vehicles with code (389)
Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada, any mobile phone connections active are interrupted.

In the event of failure of the TELE AID antenna (e.g. defective due to rollover), the emergency call system control unit automatically uses the TELE
AID backup antenna (A2/50) to transmit the mobile phone signals or data.
