Models 164, 164.8, 251 with Engine 642, Model Year 2009

Update Engine Control Module and Selective Catalytic Reduction Software

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG) has determined that the software for the Engine Control Module and Selective
Catalytic Reduction may not meet current production specifications. As a result the OBD system may not function correctly. Dealers will update the
software for the Engine Control Module and Selective Catalytic Reduction at the next workshop visit

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 5943 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

Note:

^ Use DAS/Xentry 07/09 with all associated patches or higher.

^ Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS/Xentry.

^ Connect battery charger (battery voltage >12.5V).

1. Connect Star Diagnosis to vehicle.

2. Install engine control module software: Follow DAS path: Control units/Drive/CD16- Common Rail Diesel Injection/Control unit adaptations/Control
module programming.

3. Install Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) software: Follow DAS path: Control units/Drive/SCR-Selective Catalytic Reduction/Control unit
adaptations/Control module programming.

The following allowable labor operation should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair:
