Hazard Warning Lamps: Description and Operation
GF82.10-P-3080GZ Substitute Lights And Emergency Lights Actuation, Function
Function sequence for substitute lamp actuation
If specific lights malfunction, then others are actuated as substitutes, if necessary by pulse width modulation (to adapt the light output). In such an
instance, flashing functions have priority over steady light.
The scope of the substitute lamp actuation depends on the national version and is coded in the central gateway control unit (N93) as follows.
^
Minimum variant (limited substitute lights permissible)
^
Maximum variant (complete substitute lights permissible)
Minimum variant (Japan, United States Of America, Canada, Australia and China):
In these countries, the left turn signal light (E1e5) and the right turn signal light (E2e5) must not be substituted by the pulsed actuation of the left front
fog lamp (E5/1) and the right front fog lamp (E5/2).
In United States Of America and Canada the substitution of the left turn signal light (E3e1) and the right turn signal light (E4e1) is permitted for turn
signaling. The variant for United States Of America and Canada is implemented via a separate variant coding in the rear SAM control unit (N10/8).
Lamp failure check:
A lamp defect is displayed as a text message in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
The table below depicts the scope of the substitute lights for model 164.1.
