Average fuel consumption
The average fuel consumption is displayed in either
-
miles per gallon (Fig. 3) (the possible range is 99.9 (previously 70) mi/gal to 0 mi/gal), or in
-
l/100 km (Fig. 4) (the possible range is 0 l/100 km to 36 (previously 99.9) l/100 km).
The average fuel consumption is calculated from the distance traveled since the last reset and the quantity of fuel required to travel this distance.
The display is updated every 3 seconds. Since this is an average value, the display reacts very sluggishly to changes in the driving conditions.
-
The display is not reset automatically.
-
Resetting the average fuel consumption (reset)
Ensure the trip computer control module set to the "average fuel consumption" mode. Press and hold down the Reset button for at least 2 seconds.
Data required to calculate fuel consumption
The trip computer control module (TRIP, N41) requires the following information to calculate the momentary and average fuel consumption:
-
Quantity of fuel currently used (from injection system control module (N3) via engine compartment CAN)
-
The 4 wheel speeds (from traction system control module (N47) via engine compartment CAN)

-
with CODE (245) Trip computer
The estimated range is displayed in either miles (top figure) or in kilometers (bottom figure).
The current range is calculated from the quantity of fuel currently available and the average fuel consumption.
