FUEL GAUGE NOT INDICATING FULL

Symptom
The fuel gauge may indicate only 3/4 to 7/8 full with a full fuel tank.

Probable Cause
Fuel sending unit resistor card calibration.

Corrective Action
1.

See if the vehicle chassis end number falls within the Effective Serial Number Range provided in this bulletin.

2.

Verify the above symptom with the vehicle on level ground and stationary after starting the engine with a full fuel tank.

3.

Disconnect the interior/fuel tank connector (X18/3). (For the location of connector X18/3, see WIS: GF00.19-U-1000E, Arrangement and
assignment of the wiring and plug connectors.)

4.

Check resistance to the fuel level sensor (b1) through Pin A (orange wire) and Pin B (gray wire) of connector X18/3.

5.

If resistance to the fuel level sensor is greater than 3.0 Ohms, replace the fuel sending unit. (See WIS: AR47.20-P-5713GH, Removing and
installing fuel pumps).

Note: 

Make sure the new fuel sending unit has a date code of 98217 001 or above. The date code is located on the fuel sending unit bar code label. Please
remove any fuel sending units below the aforementioned date code that might be in your stock inventory.

6.

Complete a Fuel Level Sensor Information Sheet and include it with the fuel sending unit part return.
