Fuel Gauge Not Registering Correctly After Refueling Vehicle
On the above models with an instrument cluster (A1) diagnostic version of 3/05, 3/06 or 3/07, if you receive customer reports of the fuel gauge not
registering correctly after refueling the vehicle, please perform the following steps. Do not replace the instrument cluster (A1) or the fuel pump assembly
(M3) for this condition.
1.
Connect STAR Diagnosis.
2.
Select menu items: "Information and Communication"> "ICM"> "Control Module Adaptations".
3.
Select "Fuel Tank Characteristic Curve" and change the value from Normal" to Direct Sensor Value".
Note:
The reason for this change is that the refuel recognition software may not recognize incremental refueling of less than 7 Liters especially when
refueling 1/2 full an above. During incremental refueling, the fuel gauge operation defaults to a back-up mode and continuously decreases the last
stored sensor value based on consumption data supplied via engine management. This continues until either refuel recognition or instrument cluster
(Al) reset occurs (via STAR Diagnosis or power disconnect).
Note:
Vehicles with 83-Liter fuels tanks (as of MY2002) are more susceptible to this condition.
