Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Remove Starter, Install

Remove/Install

Danger:

-

Risk of explosion from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury through
burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries

No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.

-

Wear protective gloves, acid-resistant clothing and safety glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked
containers.

Disconnect ground cable of battery

NOTE:  Insulate cable terminal of ground cable as a protection against unintentional contact of disconnected ground cable with the ground point.

Remove inner fender in right front fender

Unscrew nut (6) of left engine mount shield (5) and take out shield

NOTE:  Only on engine 112.

Bolt of engine mount to engine support = 65 Nm

Disconnect electrical line circuit 30 (1) and electrical line circuit 50 (2)
-

Nut of connection of circuit 30 = 14 Nm (Engine 112 except 112.951, 113.94/96/98)

-

Nut of connection circuit 50 = 6 Nm (Engine 112 except 112.951, 113.94/96/98)

Unscrew bolts (3)
-

Bolt of starter to crankcase = 42 Nm (Engine 112 except 112.951, 113.94/96/98)

Take out starter (M1) to the side

Install in the reverse order

Check for proper function

Render electrical system operational

NOTE:  Perform basic programming.
