Interior - Front Ash Tray Jammed/Will Not Open

Front Ashtray Will Not Open / Jammed

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that the front ashtray will not open or is jammed, the cigarette lighter may not be fully seated
or a foreign object is jammed between the ashtray and the housing. To resolve, refer to the below remedies.

Cigarette Lighter Not Fully Seated

1. Using a long wedge, W115 589 03 59 00, starting from the lower left corner, slide wedge under edge of ashtray cover and pry out to remove. Support

cover to prevent tabs from breaking due to abrupt release.

2.

Push inward on head of cigarette lighter until lighter snaps into proper position.

3.

Reinstall front ashtray cover.

4.

Verify proper operation.

Foreign Object Jammed Between the Ashtray and the Housing (**Not Warranty**)

1.

Remove front ashtray housing. Refer to WIS document AR68.20-P-2400G1.

2.

Remove foreign object

3.

Open and close ashtray and check for proper function

4.

If ashtray opens abruptly, install new damper assembly

5.

Reinstall front ashtray housing. Refer to WIS document AR68.20-P-2400GI.

6.

Verify proper function of front ashtray

As of VIN A480544, a close-out rib has been added to the ashtray design to prevent most foreign objects from falling into the gap between the ashtray
and the housing.
