Seat Belt Retractor: Description and Operation
Purpose

In the event of a collision (head-on or rear end collision), the emergency tensioning retractor ensures that the seat belt is positioned tightly around the
passenger. The tight seat belt causes the vehicle passenger to start decelerating with the body of the car earlier.
