Rear Knuckle Alignment Link: Service and Repair
Removing/Installing Track Rod
Remove/Install
Danger:

Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
-
Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points
specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
CAUTION: See Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts

Remove rear wheels
2.1 Detach level controller connecting rod (120a) from right tie rod

Vehicles with xenon headlamps.
3.1 Raise auxiliary fuel tank above rear axle carrier

Model 163.174 (vehicles with auxiliary fuel tank). Left side only.

Press tie rod joint (97a) out of wheel carrier

Detach tie rod (97) from rear axle carrier
NOTE:
-
Installed position: Mark cam bolt relative to rear axle carrier (arrow).
-
Installation: Rear axle shaft must be horizontal to rear axle carrier when tie rod nut is tightened.

Install in the reverse order

Check and adjust rear axle toe
