AUDIBLE SEAT BELT WARNING CHIME

This campaign has been initiated due to an operational defect in the audible seat belt chime. All Mercedes-Benz M-Class vehicles are equipped with a
seat belt warning chime that, is designed to sound when a driver is seated in a vehicle, the vehicle is started, but the driver's seat belt has not yet been
buckled. In certain Model Year 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-class vehicles, the seat belt chime also sounds when the seat belt is fastened. In order to correct
this operational defect, the SRS control module (N212) must be replaced and the splice diode (1, Figure 1) must be removed.

Prior to performing this Recall Campaign, please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously
repaired.

Procedure

1.

Remove ignition key from ignition lock.

2.

Remove instrument cluster.

After removing instrument cluster, locate splice diode (1, Figure 1) which is approx. 10cm behind the instrument cluster connector (A1 Figure 1),
between circuits 1814 (green) and circuit 2104 (yellow). Remove tape to expose the white diode case and then release locks on sides of diode case
