Downshift Switch: Description and Operation
Models With Touch Shift
Kickdown Switch, Position/Task/Design/Function
Component Illustration
Position
The kickdown switch (S16/6) is located in the footwell behind the accelerator pedal.
Task
To influence the shift program of the electric transmission control.
Design
The kickdown switch (S16/6) consists of a spring-loaded electric switching contact.
Function
When the kickdown switch (S16/6) is actuated via the accelerator pedal, a CAN signal is sent from the electronic selector lever module control module
(N15/5) to the ETC control module (N15/3).
The ETC control module (N15/3) processes this information and controls the solenoid valves such that downshifting occurs at higher engine speeds in
order to achieve maximum driving performance.
