The voice data is originally stored on the navigation CD-ROM as individual word segments. This data record is automatically sent by the navigation CD
to the navigation computer and stored there. The navigation computer in the COMAND operating, display and  control module (A40/3) links the word
segments to form compete instructions or information and generates corresponding low frequency signals (AF).

The AF signals generated thus are sent, when required, internally to the audio signal processing COMAND operating, display and control module
(A40/3) , amplified there and sent on to the vehicle loudspeakers.

If the vehicle is equipped with a sound system (code 810) , the voice signals are sent from the COMAND audio signal processing via the digital databus (
D2B) to the sound amplifier (A2/13) , amplified there and then issued at the vehicle loudspeakers.

Several driving recommendations coming in quick succession are combined into a single voice output.

Loading language manually from CD-ROM

The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) is equipped with 7 different languages:

These can be selected in the menu " System settings". The data for the language output are then transmitted by the CD into the navigation computer and
stored in a nonvolatile memory.

Language loading takes a few seconds and modifies both the voice output  and the menu texts on the display . After an interruption of the voltage supply
a new language loading process is automatically performed.

While a language is being loaded from the CD , any severe vibrations (e.g. on poor roads) should be avoided. Otherwise the voice output might be
