Traction Control Module: Description and Operation

Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

Task

Execute all brake control functions of Antilock Brake System (ABS), Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
. With ASR and ESP, data is exchanged between the engine and transmission control modules via a Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus.

To influence engine/transmission management in the event of ESP control.

Contains the complete Brake Assist (BAS) control module function.

To supply other systems with the vehicle speed signal and wheel speed status signal (direct or via CAN).

Supplies the instrument cluster (A1) with the signals for the ABS MIL (A1e17), BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp (A1e47) and ESP warning
lamp (A1e41) via CAN.

Supplies the instrument cluster with the signal for the brake pad wear indicator lamp (A1e6) and parking brake indicator lamp (A1e7).

On vehicles with Speed-Sensitive Power Steering (SPS) the ESP control module (N47-5) also incorporates the electronics and control logic
required f or this.
