Transfer Case Actuator: Description and Operation
Component Illustration
Task:
The electric actuator motor (A55) initiates the change in ratio in the transfer case.
Design:
The electric actuator motor (A55) is made up of the following components:
Housing and direct current motor with wiper contacts
Worm gear
Function:
After the electric actuator motor (A55) is actuated by the transfer case control module (N78), the change in ratio in the transfer case is carried out via a
worm gear and the mechanical connecting shaft. At the same time, when "moving over" the wiping contacts in the motor housing its current position is
determined by the transfer case control module (N78).
While the electric actuator motor (A55) rotates, it moves over a wiping contact in each direction just before the end stop of the position sensor. This is
necessary in order to convey the direction of rotation of the motor to the transfer case control module (N78).
