Transmission Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
Models With Touch Shift
RPM Sensor, Position/Task/Function
Component Illustration
Position
The RPM sensors (Y3/6n2 and Y3/6n3) are fixed to the shell of the control unit via contact blades. The RPM sensors are pressed against the
transmission housing (51) by a spring (49) which is held against the valve housing of the shift plate (2a).This ensures a defined distance between the
RPM sensors and the exciter ring (50).
Task
Signals from the RPM sensors (Y3/6n2, Y3/6n3) are recorded in the ETC control module (N15/3) together with the wheel and engine speeds and
other information and are processed into an input signal for electronic control.
Function
RPM sensor 2 (Y3/6yn2) records the speed of the front sun gear via the externally toothed disc carrier of the multiple-disc clutch K1 (K1b) and RPM
sensor 3 (Y3/6yn3) records the speed of the front planet carrier via the Internally toothed disc carrier of multiple-disc clutch K1 (K1c).
