Model 163, Model Years 1998 - 2001

Replacement of Center Console Switch Group

On Model 163 vehicles from Model Year 1998 through 2001, after replacing the Center Console Switch Group (S21) for front window switch failures
ONLY, please perform the following work:

1.

For left front window switch failure, remove fuse f30 from F1 (MY 98, 99) or F2 (MY 00, 01) (fuse and relay box); or for right front window
switch failure, remove fuse f29 from F1 (MY 98, 99) or F2 (MY 00, 01) (fuse and relay box).

2.

Connect a DMM (digital multi-meter) rated for a minimum 20 ampere current draw to quiescent current test adapter, part no. 140 589 12 21 00,
and then install adapter into relevant removed fuse position.

3.

Monitor the amperage draw while operating the appropriate window switch to fully lower and then raise the window. Disregard the blocked
current which occurs momentarily once the window reaches the fully raised or lowered position.

If the window operation current exceeds 12 amperes, determine the cause, e.g., distorted window frame, rough window regulator operation, etc., and
correct as necessary.

The observed maximum operating currents (raising and lowering) MUST be included in the dealer text field of every warranty claim in which the center
console switch group was replaced. Such warranty claims will be reviewed and absence of this information will cause the claim to be rejected.
