Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair

Remove/Install Steering Wheel Lock

Remove

Remove lock cylinder (36)

Remove steering wheel (120)

Remove clock spring contact

Remove combination switch (S4)

Detach trim panel (88)

Disconnect connector for contact switch (a) from contact switch (37q) for height adjustment lever (93)

7.1 Remove shift lock from steering lock; to do this, compress retaining clamps and move shiftlock backwards out of the retaining lugs

NOTE:  On models fitted with automatic transmission.

Pull transponder (c) forwards off steering lock

Attach bolt (32c) to steering shaft

CAUTION:  Otherwise the steering shaft splines may be damaged when hammering out the roll pin.

Fold down height adjustment lever (93)

Hammer roll pin out of steering lock (37) using a suitable drift

NOTE:  The lower dowel pin support is destroyed in the process.

Disconnect steering wheel lock connector (b) after unlocking the plug

NOTE:  Installation: The plug must lock in position.

Remove steering lock (37)

Remove contact switch (37q)

Install

Attach contact switch (37q) to new steering lock

Slide on connector of steering lock (b)

NOTE:  Installation: The plug must lock in position.
