Navigation processor
The navigation functions on vehicles with code (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system) are contained in the COMAND operating, display
and controller unit. In addition to the DVD-ROM drive, a GPS receiver and a turn rate sensor are integrated into the navigation unit for these functions.
GPS receiver
The GPS receiver receives the longitude, latitude information, as well as the Universal Time Coordinated time (UTC time) from the GPS satellites.
The signals from at least 3 satellites are required for position finding. The receiver can follow and evaluate up to 12 satellites. The GPS signal is also
used to calibrate the system time shown on the instrument cluster (A1).
The GPS antenna (A2/93a6) is integrated into the roof antenna module (A2/93).
Gyro sensor
The turn rate sensor is a piezo-electric vibration gyro. It is used to detect changes in direction, e.g. when cornering.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis takes place via the data link connector (X11/4), the Control Area Network bus class D (diagnosis) (CAN-D), the central gateway control unit
(N93) and the CAN-B. Here, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and all other control units in the MOST-Ring are diagnosed.
