Power Closing Assist on the Liftgate Intermittently Nonfunctional
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the power closing assist exhibiting one or all the following symptoms, follow the
procedure below to diagnose and remedy.

The liftgate being intermittently nonfunctional

Rear end door cannot be opened
To remedy
1.
Ensure play protection for locking system is not active via Star Diagnosis menu path: Control units --> Body --> Rear SAM --> Control unit
adaptations --> Read coding and change if necessary --> Rear-end door lock --> Adjust coding "play protection for trunk lid lock is active" to
"NO".
Note:
On models as of VIN A016979, play protection has been deactivated in series production.

Ensure the rear SAM has the latest software. Using Star Diagnosis version 02/06 or later, the rear SAM can be flashed via Star Diagnosis menu
path: Control units --> Body --> Rear SAM --> Control unit adaptations --> Control module programming.
