Reason for block

Complaint:

Rear Window Wiper Fails to Function or Stops Intermittently

Cause:

Low voltage cutoff relay in the rear fuse and relay block (rear SRB). Only part number A164 540 02 72 causes this condition.

Remedy:

Check the part number of the rear SRB, if the part number is A164 540 02 72, follow the procedure below to resolve.

Note:

Condition will occur when vehicle voltage is below 11.5 volts.

1. Replace the module with latest superseded part number as per parts information table. Refer to WIS document AR54.15-P-1261GZ (164) or
AR54.15-P-1261RT (251).

2. Check rear Signal Actuation and Acquisition Module (SAM) part number. If part number is not A164 540 11 01 or higher, replace with latest
superseded part number as per below using WIS document AR54.21-P-1269GZ (164) or AR54.21-P-1269RT (251).

3. Check that relay A002 542 81 19 is installed in slot S and T of the rear fuse and relay box.

4. Reroute power supply wiring for wiper motor. Relocate pin 5 (Figure 1) in connector H1 to pin 6 (Figure 2) in connector H1.

5. Using wiring harness repair kit (W220 589 02 99 00), cut off two 460 mm length wires. Strip off ¼ inch insulation from both ends of the wire. Crimp
the plug contacts to the ends of each wire.

Note:

Each wire must have one large plug contact and one small plug contact attached at either ends.

6. Install first assembled wire by inserting larger plug contact into connector P4 (Figure 3, arrow) pin 10 of the rear fuse and relay module. Insert smaller
plug contact to connector G (Figure 4, A) pin 20 of the rear SAM.

7. Install second assembled wire by inserting larger plug contact into connector P4 (Figure 3, arrow) pin 4 of the rear fuse and relay module. Insert
smaller plug contact to connector G (Figure 4, A) pin 10 of the rear SAM.

8. Wire tie new wires to existing harness.
