Grunting / Creaking Noises from Area of Front Axle
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of grunting/creaking noises from the area of the front axle when braking or negotiating a
tight corner, the noises may be coming from various rubber mounts in the upper and lower control arms. Figure 1 shows the locations of the rear and
front mount of the lower control arm. Figure 2 shows the location of the front rubber mount of the upper control arm.
Replacing the rubber mount or the complete transverse control arm will not remedy this condition.
To resolve, apply wax on the entire circumference of the mount. Apply wax on the rear and front rubber mount of the lower control arm (Figures 3
through 6) and on the front rubber mount on the upper control arm (Figures 7 and 8). Use the supplied spray lance in order to apply the wax accurately.
Note:
On model series 164, the rear mount of the lower control arm can only be treated when the vehicle is standing on its wheel. Drying time of the wax is
approximately 2 hours; do not operate the vehicle until the wax is dry.
