Location
The rack-and-pinion steering is located in front of the center of the front axle in the direction of travel.
Task
It transmits the steering movements from the steering wheel to the wheels, assists the manual turning force and thus makes it easier to steer the vehicle.
The steering wheel movement is transmitted to the gear rack with the drive pinion and then transmitted to the wheels via the tie rods.
The drive pinion has spiral splines. As an increasing number of teeth are in mesh simultaneously, the rack-and-pinion steering is wear resistant and has
a very low noise level.
