Timing Chain Guide: Service and Repair
Tensioner Rail in Block
Removal and Installation:
NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.
1. Remove timing case cover.
2. Mark crankshaft sprocket relative to timing chain with colored marking.
Engines Shown, A = Engine 104.98; B = Engine 104.94/99 (Tension Rail 1st Version Up To July 1995), Others Similar
3. Pull off bearing pin (20) from tensioning rail (2).
4. Install tensioning rail (2).
NOTE:

Pay attention to colored markings.

Check basic position of camshaft, if necessary.

The plastic guide (19) (running surface) is clipped into the tensioning rail (2) and can be replaced separately.

The bearing pin (20) is knocked into the crankcase.
^
Projection 28 mm.
^
The all-plastic tensioning rail (2nd version) can be used in place of the 1st version.
