On vehicles with ETS/ASR within the chassis end number range given in the table shown, the mounting bores (arrow, Figure 1) for the rear axle VSS
sensors (L6/3, L6/4) must be de-burred with a small magnet and inspected.

Approximately 600 vehicles are affected. Upon arrival of vehicles for repair, check Vehicle Master Inquiry (VMI). A list of vehicles is being sent via
MB Net, which contains the vehicles on our record as being in your dealer inventory or sold by your dealer.

Procedure

1.

Remove self-locking allen bolts (a, Figure 2) securing left and right rear axle VSS sensors (L6/3, L6/4) to mounting bores (b).

NOTE:

Always replace with new self-locking allen bolts (never reuse) (a, Figure 2).

Tightening torque:
Torque allen bolts (a, Figure 2) to 8 +/- 2 Nm.

Remove VSS sensors (L6/4, L6/3, Figure 2) from mounting bores (b).

3.

Remove foreign material from tip of VSS sensor that may be present.

4.

Run a small magnet through the left and right mounting bores in order to remove any burr(s) that may be present. Inspect mounting bores to ensure
that burrs (if any) have been removed from the bore.
