Alternator Pulley: Service and Repair
With Pot-Type Generator
Preliminary work:
Poly V-belt slackened
Front noise encapsulation removed
Quiescent current retention unit
disconnect, connect.
Ground cable at battery
disconnect, connect.
Ring (1) of radiator shroud
slacken, attach.
Collar nut (2)
unscrew, screw on, tightening torque 70 Nm.
Use hexagon socket bit (8 mm) with reversible ratchet to hold shaft (3).
Poly V-belt pulley (4) with spacer disc (5)
take off, fit on.
Supporting disc (6)
take off, fit on.
Fan wheel (7)
take off, fit on.
The Poly V-belt pulley (4) and the fan wheel (7) are subjected to very different stresses. The level of these stresses depends primarily on the driving
conditions. For this reason, when reconditioning generators on vehicles which have driven more than 100,000 km, at the same time also replace the poly
V-belt pulley (4) and the fan wheel (7).
