Removing and Installing Adjusting Screw

Removing and Installing Adjusting Screw on Steering Gear with Adjusting Screw Below (Model 140):

Remove steering gear, if not already done.

-

Follow the procedure of removing and checking the "bearing cover with pitman arm shaft" before proceeding with this procedure. See: Remove,

After the above criteria are met, proceed as follows:

Loosen screw plug (102), When tightening again, torque to 100 Nm using claw wrench 140 589 02 O7 00 or equivalent.

Replace locking ring (103)

Remove, spring washer (104) and spacer washer (105). On reassembly, install at adjusting screw (45) and replace spring washer (104).

Remove locking ring (106). Replace. Install in screw plug (102).

Remove adjusting screw (45), install at screw plug (102)

Remove thrust washer (107).

NOTE:  The adjusting screw (45) should be installed free of play, if possible, in the screw plug (102). Thrust washers (107) are available for this
purpose in thicknesses from 2.65 - 3.10 mm in graduations of 0.05 mm.

Examine O-ring (30) for signs of damage and wear, replace, if necessary.

Examine needle bearing in steering gear housing for bearing needles which may have dropped out (32 needles). Insert bearing needles with grease,
if necessary.
