AR32.20-P-0315B Remove/Install Torsion Bar on Rear Axle

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL 

1. Remove rear axle center piece
2. Remove Nuts (78a and 78b), then stabilizer bar connecting rods (78)
3. Remove Nut (77d), then fixing clamps (77)

WARNING:
^

Risk of explosion due to vapors igniting, risk of poisoning from inhaling fuel vapors and swallowing fuel and risk of injury due to fuel
coming into contact with the skin and eyes

^

Fire, sparks, naked flame and smelting forbidden

^

Only pour fuels into suitable, appropriately marked containers 

^

Wear protective clothing when handling fuel 

4. Unclip, disconnect fuel hose from fuel tank to fuel pump
5. On models with level control, remove nuts (81e), then the intermediate lever (81)
6. On all models, remove stabilizer bar (77)
7. Pull rubber mount (77a) off stabilizer bar (77)

INSTALLATION  

-

Install in reverse sequence, noting the following
-

Replace self-locking bolts

-

Smear inside of rubber mounts (77a) with lubricant Naphthalene H part No. 000 989 01 00, or equivalent

-

Align stabilizer bar (77)

-

On models with level control, the face on the intermediate lever (81) must align with the face on the stabilizer bar (77) (arrow)

-

Tighten the following components as noted:
-

Self-locking nut for fastening stabilizer bar connecting rod to stabilizer bar: 40 Nm 

-

Self-locking nut for fastening stabilizer bar connecting rod to wheel carrier: 40 Nm 

-

Self-locking nut for fastening stabilizer bar rubber mount to rear axle carrier: 20 Nm 

-

Self-locking nut for fastening intermediate lever to stabilizer bar: 10 Nm
