Engine - Will Not Crank, Blown Fuse

ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK (FUSE F3-16 BLOWN)
REWIRING VOLTAGE SUPPLY FOR STARTER LOCK-OUT RELAY MODULE (K38)

As of January 1994 production, the voltage supply for the starter lock-out relay module (K38) was changed from fuse F4-2 to F3-16. The front cigar
lighter (R3) is also powered by fuse F3-16.

If fuse F3-16 blows, the engine will not crank.

The practice of powering aftermarket electrical accessories from the front cigar lighter increases the likelihood of fuse F3-16 being blown.

Therefore, in circumstances where the voltage supply to K38 is interrupted by a blown fuse F3-16, rewire the voltage supply for K38 as per the
procedure described below.

Procedure

1. Disconnect and cover the battery negative terminal.

2. Remove fuse box F3 to expose wiring beneath (SMS, Job No. 54-1255).

3. Locate wire coupling position 21 (see ETM, Model 140, Vol. 1, 00-B.4 2, drawing B). Position 21 is a RD/VI wire, covered in black tubing, near

screw connection "D".

4. Remove the wiring connector from position 21 by sliding the red plastic locking clip over to the side (press near the letter "L" on fuse block) and

pulling the wire connector out. Slide locking clip back into locked position.

5. Locate wire coupling position 27, near screw connection "E".

6. Install the RD/VI wire from position 21 into position 27 by sliding the locking clip over to the side (press near the letter "M" on fuse block). Press

the wire connector into position and slide the locking clip back into locked position.

7. Reinstall fuse box F3, avoid damaging wiring (SMS, Job No. 54-1255).

8. Add "STARTER LOCK-OUT" to fuse position 19 of the fuse card using a permanent marker. Verify existence of a brown 7.5A fuse in position 19.

9. Reconnect battery negative terminal.

10. Recode radio and resynchronize power windows

11. Test function of K38 by starting engine.
