Ball Joint: Service and Repair

NOTE:

To remove and install the supporting joint the shock absorber must be installed, or the spring removed

Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL 

1. Remove front wheel

2. Unscrew the locking screw of brake disc and splash shield (arrow)
3. Unscrew ball pivot nut (7a) of supporting joint

4. Screw thrust piece (044b) tool No. 140 589 00 63 00 onto the ball pivot of supporting joint
5. Press brake disc and brake disc splash shield outwards, press supporting joint out of steering knuckle using puller (O44) tool No. 140 589 09 33

00, or equivalent

Clean tapered connection if necessary

6. Unscrew supporting joint nut on the wishbone side

7. Screw thrust piece (O44a) tool 140 589 24 63 00, or equivalent onto the ball pivot of the supporting joint
8. Using puller (044) press supporting joint out of wishbone

Clean tapered connection if necessary
