SYMPTOM
"Traction control malfunction" is displayed in the instrument cluster (DTC 1140 and 1504 are stored in the ESP/SPS/BAS control module [N47-5]).
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Low battery voltage (battery voltage dropping below 50%) at the steering column module (N80) Steering angle sensor initialization lost because of low
voltage.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install direct voltage line to the steering angle sensor.

1. Disconnect and cover the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove left front door threshold, left kick panel and pull back rug.
3. Open harness tray and disconnect connector X18 (white 14-pin connector [arrow, Figure 1]) located in the left front footwell near doorsill.
