S 500 Coupe (140.070) V8-5.0L (119.980) (1997)
Position
Behind steering wheel
Task
-
Switching cruise control mode on/off at more than 40 m/h
-
With 30 km/h limit:
switching 30 km/h limit on or off below 30 km/h.
-
Increasing or reducing the speed to be maintained in cruise control mode
-
Supplying signal to the engine control module
Design/function
When the cruise control switch (S40) is operated.two switch contacts in it are always operated simultaneously. The actual input is performed by
closing a switch contact, which e.g. is required for storing the vehicle speed.
For this input to be accepted by the engine control module and recognized as an intentional operator on the part of the driver, however, it is also
necessary for the safety contact to close at the same time. This counteracts any unintentional operation of the cruise control in the event of a fault
(e.g. fault in wiring harness).
Variable Cruise Control Switch
NOTE:
Application:
ENGINE 119.981 in MODEL 140.042/043/063 as of 1.6.97
ENGINE 119.980 in MODEL 140.050/051/070 as of 1.6.97
TASK
Limiting vehicle speed to an individually set figure (from 30 km/h up to maximum speed of the particular vehicle model).
DESIGN/FUNCTION
Switchover between cruise control and variable speed limiter (VSL) is performed with the sliding part of the switch (direction 5).
ACCELERATE-SET (direction 1): increases speed limit in steps of 10 km/h.
DECELERATE-SET (direction 2): reduces speed limit in steps of 10 km/h.
RESUME-SET (direction 4): activates the speed limit last set and increases it each time by 1 km/h.
OFF position (direction 3): to switch OFF.
