Brake Master Cylinder: Service and Repair
Master Cylinder

DISASSEMBLE

1. Position cylinder in suitable soft jawed vise.
2. Remove expansion tank, then remove cap and strainer.
3. Using suitable mandrel, push piston inward.
4. Using suitable pliers, remove cylinder pin from housing.
5. Remove piston locking ring.
6. Remove piston with secondary sealing pack from housing.
7. Gently tap cylinder housing to remove piston from floating circuit.

ASSEMBLE

1. Clean all parts with brake fluid, ensuring fluid residue is flushed from cylinder housing and expansion tank.
2. Check housing bore for scoring or damage. If indicated, replace housing.
3. Rub housing bore with suitable brake cylinder paste.
4. Separate packing sleeves, remove sealing pack and piston from sleeve.
5. Position cylinder housing in vise with bore at slight downward angle.
6. Using suitable screwdriver, install floating piston and sleeve to stop. Ensure piston guide slot is vertical.
7. Hold piston using suitable mandrel, then install cylinder pin with chamfer in bore to stop. Pin should not protrude more that 2-3 mm.
8. Position cylinder housing ensuring bore is upward.
9. Install secondary seal pack and pushrod piston using suitable mandrel.

10. Install locking ring.
11. With cylinder housing in horizontal position, install expansion housing ensuring proper seat.
