Timing Chain Tensioner: Service and Repair
Removing and Installing Tensioning Rail

Preparation

Right camshaft adjuster unit removed. See: Variable Valve Timing/Variable Valve Timing Actuator/Service and Repair

Belt pulley/vibration damper removed. See: Cylinder Block Assembly/Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley/Service and Repair 

Procedure

-

Unscrew screw plug (35) with seal (36), screw on

Tighten to: 10 Nm.

Installation Note: Replace seal (36) according to condition.

Pull off tensioning rail pin (2) with impact extractor (02) and threaded insert (03), special tools 116 589 20 33 00 and

116 589 02 34 00.

-

Pull tensioning rail (3) out of chain housing, insert.

-

Push in tensioning rail pin (2).

NOTE:  Insertion size: pin to sealing ring contact (timing case cover), maintain 10 mm.
