Crankshaft Position Sensor: Adjustments

Overview

-

Disconnect ground cable of battery, connect.

-

Remove poly V-belt tensioning device, install. 

-

Remove right cylinder head (valve) cover, install. 

-

Set piston of No. 1 cylinder to 10° before TDC.

-

Remove spark plug at No. 1 cylinder, install

Tighten to: 25 Nm

-

Screw measuring pin tool No. 116 589 17 21 00 into spark plug thread of No. 1 cylinder, unscrew, refer to step 6 below.

-

Remove TDC sensor, install ( refer to step 7 below).

-

Clamp dial gauge (01) tight in measuring pin tool with 4 mm preload, refer to step 8 below.

-

Turn crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine and set TDC with dial gauge (01), refer to step 8 below.

-

Set large point of dial gauge to "0" ( refer to step 8 below).

-

Rotate engine, with wrench socket tool 001 689 65 09 00, in direction of rotation of engine until dial gauge has moved by the value, see table
"Piston Travel At Crankshaft Setting Of 20° After TDC" below.

-

Insert fixing device, special tool 119 589 00 21 00 into adjusting slide, refer to step 10 below.

Fixing device  must engage in measuring cam on vibration damper.

Correcting Setting Of TDC Sensor

Slacken nut of adjusting slide, refer to step 11 below.

-

Move adjusting slide until fixing device locks in place in measuring cam on vibration damper, refer to step 11 below.

-

Nut of adjusting slide tighten (step 12).

Piston Travel At Crankshaft Setting Of 20° After TDC

NOTE:

-

The TDC sensor (2) with bracket is attached to the timing case cover.

-

The measuring cam (1) on the vibration damper must be positioned in the middle below the TDC sensor (2) when the crankshaft is in the position
