Seat Belt Tensioner: Service and Repair
Front Seat Belt with Tensioner (ETR), Removal and Installation

Removing and Installing Seat Belt with Belt Tensioner:

-

Adjust seat forward.

-

Fold back floor mat in front passenger's footwell.

-

Unscrew and remove front passenger's foot support.

-

Turn ignition key to "0" position.
Disconnect negative battery terminal.

-

Disconnect seat belt tensioner test connection (X11/7).

-

On vehicles with airbag, disconnect airbag testing plug connector (X11/13).

-

Remove cover bar on entry strip, front and rear.

-

Remove facing/edge protector on center ("B") pillar.

-

Unscrew the 2 screws (1) at bottom of center ("B") pillar facing.

-

Press in clips on center pillar facing (3) with screwdriver (arrow) and remove.

-

Remove screw (4) on seat belt bracket and nut (5) on upper belt guide fitting.

-

Disconnect plug connector on seat belt tensioner ignition capsule (R12/1, R12/2) as well as seat belt comfort facility.

-

Press automatic seat belt rewinder downwards and remove from center ("B") pillar.

Installation Notes:
 

When installing the seat belt tensioner pay attention to the different designs (left and right) and make sure that parts are correctly positioned in locks.

Noises caused by the Automatic Rewind Device when the seat belt is being rewound are functional (or normal). In the event of complaint excessive
noises can only be prevented by replacing the seat belt. In no case may oil or grease be used to prevent noises.

The Automatic Rewind Device must not be dismantled as accidents may be caused by the pretensioned springs. Automatic rewind devices which have
been opened are no longer covered by the terms of the Guarantee.
