Charge Battery
Preliminary work:
Checking state of charge, See: Testing and Inspection/Check Condition of Battery
Quiescent current retention unit
disconnect, connect.
Battery
disconnect, reconnect. See: Disconnecting and Connecting Battery
Battery
remove, install.
NOTE: On vehicles with two batteries both batteries must be removed.
Cell covers
unscrew.
Electrolyte level
check, top up distilled water if necessary.
Cell covers
screw in.
NOTE: Use battery charging room due to generation of explosive gas.
Positive terminal (+) of charger
connect to positive pole (+) on battery, disconnect.
Negative terminal (-) of charger
connect to negative pole (-) of battery, disconnect.
NOTE: On vehicles with two batteries the batteries must be charged separately.
Charger
switch on, switch off. The charging current should be max. 10 % of battery capacity, e.g. max.
10 A charging current for a 100 Ah battery.
Note for quick-charging
Unscrew cell caps.
Maximum charging current for 30 minutes 50 amperes then switch over to normal charging (see above).
Electrolyte density
measure, specification 1.28 kg/dm cu.
Electrolyte Density
NOTE: The electrolyte density is dependent on temperature and varies by 0.01 kg/dm cu. for each 15 °C.
Examples:
Electrolyte density at20 °C
1.28 kg/dm cu.
Electrolyte density at35 °C
1.29 kg/dm cu.
Electrolyte density at 5 °C
1.27 kg/dm cu.
