Campaign - A/T Auxiliary Cooler Thermostat Fluid Leaks

SUBJECT: Models 221 and 216, Model Years 2007 - 2008

Check Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler Thermostat for Leaks,
Replace O-Rings if Necessary

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG has determined that the auxiliary transmission oil cooler thermostat may leak. The dealer
will check the auxiliary transmission cooler thermostat for leaks and, if found leaking, replace the thermostat O-rings and top off the automatic
transmission fluid level, at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

-

Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

-

Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 365 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

1. Check auxiliary transmission oil cooler thermostat for transmission fluid leaks:

-

For model 216 proceed to step 2 (remove radiator grill).

For model 221 proceed to step 3 (inspect for transmission fluid leak).

2. Remove bolts (1, Figure 1) then release retaining tabs (arrows), remove radiator grill (2).

NOTE:  Proceed to step 3 (inspect for transmission fluid leak).

3. If auxiliary transmission oil cooler thermostat (A, Figure 2) is not leaking transmission fluid in area indicated (dotted circle) Procedure is

complete. If thermostat (A) is leaking transmission fluid (in area of dotted circle) continue with procedure:

For model 216 proceed to step 4 (remove air deflector).

For model 221 proceed to step 5 (replace thermostat O-rings).
