DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION

If the EZL/AKR control module detects a specific fault more than 8 sequential times (ignition switch turned ON and OFF), a fault code is stored in
the control module memory. Only malfunctions which prevent/severely influence starting or operating of the ignition system are immediately
stored in the fault memory.

The malfunction memory can be accessed via the diagnostic connector (X11/4). The malfunction memory is not erased when disconnecting the
battery.

CATALYST WARM-UP FUNCTION

In order to bring the catalytic converter faster to its operating temperature, the exhaust gas temperature is increased by means of an increased idle
speed and retarded timing.

When the coolant temperature is between 15°C (59°F) and 40°C (104°F), the timing is retarded for approx. 30 seconds. With the engine at idle,
gear selector position in "P" or "N", the idle speed is increased to 1100 - 1200 RPM. The idle speed returns to normal when a gear is selected.

FUEL SHUT-OFF FUNCTION

When the ignition control module recognizes a specific type of failure, it sends the LH control module (via CAN) a signal to switch off all affected
fuel injectors.

ENGINE TORQUE REDUCTION FUNCTION (PART OF ASR)

In order to obtain instant engine torque reduction during wheel slip, the ignition timing is retarded during the first part of ASR engagement. This
signal is received via the controller area network (CAN) from the ABS/ASR III and electronic accelerator control module.
