Tie Rod End: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL 

1. Unscrew nut of track rod (10)

Steady ball pivot with Allen wrench, if required

2. Install thrust piece (051) tool No. 140 589 00 63 00, or equivalent, on respective joint
3. Press off track rod using puller (050) tool No. 140 589 00 33 00, or equivalent

INSTALLATION 

NOTE:

When installing, clean grease off tapers and press ball joints of the track rod securely in to the steering arm

Check joints for play and damaged rubber boots. Replace track rod, if necessary

Comply with installed position (track rod ball joint swung towards steering arm)

^

Replace self-locking nut

Install in reverse order, noting the following:
-

Replace self-locking nuts

-

Check and adjust toe in

-

Tighten self-locking nut of track rod on steering arm to: 50 Nm
