Press down on locking tab (1, Figure 1) and slide lock (2) to the side.

Disconnect 2-pole connector (3, Figure 1) from RCL control module (N54), insulate and tie back (this connector is no longer used). Remove main
RCL connector

Remove original RCL control module (part no. 210 820 2826) and install new RCL control module (part no. 210 820 2726). Connect main RCL
connector.

Expose the 2-pole CAN bus connector (5, Figure 2) which is tied back in the area of the RCL control module, or beneath the module box. This
connector looks like the one removed in Step 2, but has a terminating resistor plug on it.

5.

Disconnect the bus terminating resistor plug (4, Figure 2) from the 2-pole CAN Bus connector and discard.

6.

Connect the 2-pole CAN Bus connector (5, Figure 2) to the new RCL control module.

7.

Perform variant coding of the RCL control module via the HHT. In event the HHT does not access the version coding menu, refer to RCL Control
Module Notes under subject A.

8.

After installing new engine control module, perform version coding, enter VIN, and perform "identification procedure". Verify that vehicle starts
when unlocked, and does not start when locked with RCL or key.

B. Vehicles With DAS

As of Model Year 1996, all models (excluding models mentioned, under subject A) are equipped with the Drive Authorization System (DAS). This
system increases the theft resistance of the vehicle by disabling fuel injection if the vehicle is not properly unlocked, either via the RCL system or with
the key. This system uses the CAN Bus to transfer data from the RCL control module to the engine control module during each starting attempt.

Operational Description - DAS

This operational description applies to all vehicles with DAS. Vehicles described under subject A are not equipped with DAS, therefore this description
does not apply.
