Rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine with wrench 001 589 65 09 00. Hold timing chain (5) meshed by hand at the right exhaust
camshaft sprocket (9) for this step and pull bottom end of timing chain (4) out of the chain housing as it becomes free.

Continue rotating crankshaft until the ends of the new timing chain can be connected with the riveted link.

Detach old timing chain and remove assembly link.

Insert the ends of the new timing chain with riveted link and middle plate (thickness 1.6 mm) from the rear.

Place the thrust piece with marking F1 into the riveting tool and screw on with screw (28) (Fig. A).

Place moving thrust piece with marking (D5) into the riveting tool (Fig. B).

Insert outer plate (11) (thickness 1.2 mm) into the thrust piece (D5).

Fit webs (arrows) onto the rollers at the riveted link.
