Rear Knuckle Alignment Link: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL 

WARNING:

Risk of fatal injury due to vehicle slipping off or tilting on the hoist

Align vehicle between the pillars of the hoist and position the four support plates at the hoist mounting points specified by the vehicle
manufacturer

Refer to the illustration above and the information below during removal procedures:
-

Use pressure piece tool No. 201 589 05 63 00 and puller tool No. 140 589 00 33 00, or equivalents to remove ball pin from wheel carrier

Mark cam bolt in relation to rear axle carrier (arrow)

-

Use press out and press in tool No. 140 589 06 43 00 (04h and 04g), or equivalents, to remove bushing from track arm

INSTALLATION

-

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
-

Replace self-locking nuts

-

The real axle shaft must be horizontal when tightening the nuts on the rear axle carrier.

Clean grease off ball pin and tapered seat in wheel carrier

-

Press ball pin firmly into taper seat and steady with Allen wrench if necessary

-

After installing track rod, check toe-in at rear axle and adjust if necessary
